Campus Safety

Campus Safety Staff are on duty 24/7. For emergencies contact staff at 503-768-7777, or 503-768-7855 for non emergencies. If you are ever experiencing a medical emergency, be sure to call Campus Safety so they may assist emergency medical responders in getting to your location.

Health Service Hours

The Health Service will continue to be open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through December 11.* We are still working out the details of the service plan for students from December 14-16, and will be in touch as those details become clear. All consultations begin with a telehealth appointment. Please call 503-768-7165 to begin the consultation process. COVID testing will be available on campus during this time.

Starting Saturday, November 28, the Health Service will no longer be open for telehealth visits on Saturdays. Anytime the Health Service is closed, students needing medical consultation should contact the Nurse Consultation line at 1-844-915-2069. A list of local urgent care centers can be found here.

What about COVID?

Like other parts of the country, COVID rates in Portland have increased significantly. Residential students are required to stay on campus through the end of the semester, other than essential errands, such as trips to the grocery store or pharmacy. If you have a request for non-essential travel off campus, you must request permission for that travel by completing the “Approval for Off-Campus Activities, Travel and Return to Campus” form. Be sure to complete this form well in advance of your travel date, as it can take up to five business days for staff to review submissions.

All students are still expected to self-monitor for COVID symptoms each day. If you ever experience symptoms of COVID, immediately isolate in your residence; follow the Guidelines for Self-Isolation; complete the COVID Self-Check and Report Form (SCARF); and seek medical consultation through the Health Service (or after hours, through the Nurse Consultation line, 1-844-915-2069).

If you ever think you need COVID consultation, we advise starting with the Health Service or (afterhours) the Nurse Consultation Line. If you travel off-campus for testing and subsequently test positive, you will be faced with the challenge of getting back to campus when you cannot be within six feet of another person without exposing them.

Finally, it remains critical that students answer their phones, as that is the way our Wellness Service staff will reach out to students who might have been exposed to a positive case of COVID. Please also be sure your voicemail is not full, so that staff who are trying to reach you can leave a message.

Counseling Service Hours

The Counseling Service will be open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through December 16.* Staff will continue to be available for telemental health counseling and consultation appointments for students who are physically located in Oregon at the time of the appointment. Same- or next-day urgent appointments are available. Please call 503-768-7160 to schedule an appointment. If you reach voicemail, please leave a detailed message including your name, phone number, and availability. Staff may return your call from an “unavailable” or “blocked” number, so please answer or let us know if we can leave a message. If you are outside of Oregon, we are available to provide referral assistance for ongoing counseling or crisis services in your area.

*Health and Counseling Services will be closed on Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27, in recognition of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Confidential Advocates

Confidential Advocates (formerly known as SARAs) are trained to respond to and support survivors of sexual and interpersonal violence. Most Confidential Advocates are available during weekday business hours until December 16 (check webpage for availability). We will post more information on services over winter break at a later date.

If this is an emergency or you feel immediately unsafe, you can call 911 or Campus Safety (503-768-7777)..

If you would like to speak to a confidential resource off campus, Call to Safety operates a 24-hr hotline (1-888-235-5333), or contact RAINN (1-800-656-HOPE) for help with finding a local resource in your area.

Best wishes,

John Hancock, Ed.D.
