Dorm Covid-19 Info 11.13.20
November 13, 2020
Dear Spruce Residents,
This afternoon we were notified of a second consecutive positive result for COVID-19 detected in the wastewater leaving Forest and West Halls.
As you are aware, there was a student in Spruce earlier this week who tested positive for COVID. Both positive effluent results from recent days were drawn while that student was still in Spruce. Therefore both positive readings may be the result of that single student who has since been moved into separate isolating housing.
However, out of an abundance of caution, especially because many of you will soon be traveling, you will need to be tested for COVID-19 at the clinic scheduled for next Monday. There will be no charge. If a charge shows up on your account, it will be reversed. Our COVID response team has determined that Spruce residents do not need to self-isolate over this weekend. However, residents should continue to socially distance, wear masks, and practice good hand hygiene.
The Health Service is conducting a mandatory COVID-19 PCR saliva test for Spruce residents, Monday, November 16, between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. in Pamplin Sports Center. To sign up for the November 16 testing clinic, please do so through the “Apptmts” (appointments) tab at the top of your homescreen in the Health Information Portal. We encourage you to make your appointment as soon as possible. If you have any difficulty scheduling your appointment, please email email@example.com. If you were already planning to be tested in Monday’s testing clinic and have already signed up for a testing appointment, you do not need to do anything more: just show up at your assigned testing time.
The only exceptions are students who have been diagnosed with COVID since September 15. If you fall into that category, please email Case Manager Ami Hanna at firstname.lastname@example.org. Note that Monday’s testing clinic is ONLY for students who are asymptomatic. If you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID, please be sure to self-isolate, fill out the COVID symptom reporting form in the Health Information Portal, and check in with the Health Service on Monday at 503-768-7165. Staff will arrange for a separate time for you to be evaluated and tested. Results from Monday’s testing should be available by the end of day on Wednesday, November 18. Only students who test positive will be informed of the results.
Students should not have anything to eat, drink, chew, or smoke for 30 minutes prior to their testing, with the exception of drinking water. In addition, students should not brush their teeth during the 30 minutes prior to testing. The testing that will be done is a PCR saliva test. Students should familiarize themselves with this procedure prior to their test date by reading this testing consent form and the fact sheet.
On a related note, please be aware that the disinfection process for Spruce was completed earlier this afternoon. Students should now feel free to use the second floor bathroom (#230) and kitchen (#231).Thank you for your patience as housekeeping staff worked through disinfection protocols.
Check your email often, please respond to any phone calls, and be sure your voicemail is not full. The status of any positive COVID-19 tests on our campus can be found on our reporting and notification page within one business day of a positive test.
Thank you for your cooperation. As always, WeB4Me@LC.
