An affiliate of the National Writing Project (NWP), the Oregon Writing Project (OWP) at Lewis & Clark is approved as a No Child Left Behind professional development provider. Therefore, OWP has received its second two-year University/Schools Partnership (USP) Grant to work with teachers at Clarendon/Portsmouth K-8 School, Spanish-English International School (SEIS) at Roosevelt High School, and Jefferson High School. Through a separate National Evaluation Research Grant with SRI and NWP, OWP also conducts similar professional development at Lane Middle School.

OWP director Linda Christensen and OWP teacher-consultants lead workshops, complete demonstration lessons, facilitate peer observations and discussions, and teach classes in these partnership schools to improve the teaching of writing across the curriculum and grade levels.  Through collaboration with teachers in these four schools, OWP tailors professional activities to each school’s expressed needs. The desired end result in all schools is the increased achievement in writing, thinking, and learning of students.
