International Law and CBLI Host Conference on Import-Export Law

On March 6, 2020, Lewis & Clark’s International Law Program and the Center for Business Law & Innovation (CBLI) hosted the conference, Importing and Exporting Amid a Trade War: Tariffs, Export Control, and Sanctions, to a standing-room only crowd which included law students and area attorneys.
Leading practitioners from around the country explored several facets of the ongoing trade war, including tariff increases by the Trump Administration, legal strategies for mitigating the effects of those tariffs, and recent changes to export controls and sanctions regimes. Roundtable discussions with in-house trade compliance representatives focused on how their companies are navigating these challenges, and an agent from the Bureau of Industry and Security’s Office of Export Enforcement gave a presentation on government enforcement efforts.

Despite travel restrictions and concerns associated with the COVID-19 outbreak, all but one of the intended panelists (Julie Zack of Intel Corporation) were able to make the event.
