Lewis & Clark and GNHRE Host Webinar on the Outcome of COP25

The 2019 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP25, was held in Madrid, Spain, from December 2-13, 2019, under the presidency of the Chilean government. The conference incorporates the 25th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the 15th meeting of the parties for the Kyoto Protocol, and the second meeting of the parties for the Paris Agreement.

The GNHRE webinar will be moderated by Lewis & Clark Assistant Professor and GNHRE Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Lisa Benjamin. Speakers will be discussing the changing political dynamics of the Conference of the Parties (COP), recent outcomes on loss and damage as well as the international trading mechanism.

Panelists include:

Bryce Rudyk, Adjunct Professor and Senior Fellow of International Environmental Law and Director of the United Nations Diplomacy Clinic at the New York University School of Law, Legal Advisor to the Alliance of Small Island States

Linda Siegele, Lecturer, University College London (UCL) and SOAS University of London; Legal Advisor to the Cook Islands on adaptation and loss and damage;

M.J. Mace, Lawyer, and Independent Consultant; Lead Negotiator for the Alliance of Small Island States on Article 6.

“The 2020s is a key period for world to urgently address the climate crisis and avoid runaway climate change,” stated Benjamin. “This webinar will provide an update on negotiation outcomes of the last Conference of Parties by negotiators for the Alliance of Small Island States on critical issues such as loss and damage and the international trading mechanism. It will also provide participants with a glimpse into the future political dynamics of the COPs into the 2020s from the perspective of vulnerable states.”
