During BREATHE Oregon’s Deconstructing Diesel Community Forum on Nov. 12, GEI staff attorney Amelia Schlusser discussed Portland’s diesel pollution problem and the associated environmental justice impacts in local communities. A video recording of her presentation is available at the link below.
Two local high school students kicked off the event with an animated video they created to highlight the climate impacts of black carbon, a short-lived climate pollutant emitted from diesel engines. The teens urged attendees to sign a petition urging state and local leaders to take action on black carbon. Earthjustice attorney Adriano Martinez next discussed efforts to reduce diesel pollution in California, and Portland State University atmospheric chemist Dr. Linda George presented preliminary findings from an ongoing air quality study conducted by researchers from PSU and Reed College.
