SPARC Office To Serve All Three Schools

Assistant Vice President of Sponsored Projects and Research Kelly Delfatti Assistant Vice President of Sponsored Projects and Research Kelly DelfattiDear Faculty and Staff:

In order to better serve the needs of faculty and staff in all three schools at Lewis & Clark, I am pleased to announce the establishment of an institution-wide Sponsored Projects and Research Compliance (SPARC) Office. I’m particularly pleased to share that Kelly DelFatti has agreed to become Lewis & Clark’s first Assistant Vice President of Sponsored Projects and Research Compliance and that she will report to me in this new and expanded role.

CAS faculty are well aware of Kelly’s deep commitment to her work and the invaluable assistance that she and her team provide. I am confident that faculty and staff across the institution will be well-served by this new and expanded role for Kelly and her team. The SPARC team includes Megan Hagler, Financial Research Administrator, and a currently vacant position that supports proposal development and research compliance.

SPARC will remain in Albany 208 and maintain its close ties to CAS faculty, while taking on a similar role with the Graduate School of Education and Counseling and the Law School. The office will support proposal development and grant administration across the institution, with a particular focus on government funding. SPARC will work with Principal Investigators and Project Directors throughout the lifecycle of funded projects to make it easier to properly manage grants, as well as oversee compliance committees (Institutional Review Board, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, and Institutional Biosafety Committee) and requisite research training.

SPARC is just one resource to faculty and staff who seek external support for their important work. Together SPARC and the Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) Office are here to help faculty and staff at all three schools identify appropriate funding opportunities and submit competitive grant proposals. The focus of the CFR Office is to build and manage relationships with individuals, private foundations, and corporations in pursuit of funding aligned with departmental and institutional priorities. The SPARC Office will support individual faculty scholarship and creative endeavors and manage the submission of all federal grant proposals on behalf of Lewis & Clark.

If you’re not sure where to start, or have any questions, please reach out to either Kelly DelFatti (AVP of SPARC) or David Johnson (AVP of CFR) for assistance. They will work closely together to help you navigate the process of identifying appropriate funding for your project, preparing a proposal, developing a budget, coordinating required internal approvals prior to submission, and submitting your proposal or application.
