Welcome Home

Lewis & Clark welcomes new students to campus.

New Student Orientation is an exciting time on Palatine Hill, with members of the Class of 2023 and new transfer students arriving from around the world.

During NSO, students become familiar with academic and cocurricular life at Lewis & Clark. Our programs and events help make the transition to college as seamless as possible by introducing students to the campus environment, providing opportunities to meet classmates as well as faculty and staff, and equipping new Pioneers with the tools and resources necessary for success.

“The week before classes start is a thrilling time,” says NSO Student Director Franchesca Spann ’20. “We’re here to help you make the most of it.”

Our College Outdoors program also offers new students the chance to go on a New Student Trip before orientation starts. Last month, the incoming class went backpacking in the Wallowa mountains, rafting on the Deschutes river, and surfing on the Oregon Coast. NSTs give students a great opportunity to form a core group of friends before they head into the fast-paced experience of moving into the residence halls and starting classes.

This year, the college is welcoming 558 first-year and transfer students. Of the incoming Pios, 4 percent are international citizens, and 30 percent are U.S. students of color. The new class represents 43 states and 17 countries.
