Accepting Applications for Tenure-Track Position for Assistant Professor of Sociology

Lewis & Clark College, a private liberal arts college with 2,000 undergraduates, invites applications for a tenure-track position in sociology at the assistant professor level in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology beginning fall 2020.
We seek candidates whose research and teaching complement the department’s strengths. Areas of particular interest include: Critical criminal justice; education; global capitalism; medical sociology; science and technology studies. Preferred areas of regional complementarity include the United States. PhD. or terminal degree in sociology required at the time of appointment as a tenure-track member of the faculty. The usual teaching load is five courses per academic year and will at times include teaching critical theory and research design. It may also include participation in the College’s general education program. Potential for excellent teaching and an appreciation of the role of research at an undergraduate liberal arts institution are essential.
Applications should include: (1) curriculum vitae; (2) a letter of application which includes a statement of teaching experience and research interests, as well as a description of how the applicant’s teaching and/or work in the campus community will contribute to a culture of inclusion and campus diversity; (3) statement of teaching philosophy and evidence of teaching effectiveness; (4) sample of scholarship (published articles and/or works in progress); (5) three letters of recommendation (uploaded separately by the referees); and (6) graduate transcripts.
