College Commencement

Senior Speaker 2019

April 12, 2019

  • Aria Ballance

This March members of the Class of 2019 presented speeches in the annual Senior Speaker Competition. We are pleased to announce that Aria Ballance, chemistry major and theatre minor from Santa Barbara, California, was selected as Senior Speaker by a selection committee of seniors, faculty, and staff.

Aria is the Lead RA for Platt-Howard as well as president of the Student Alumni Association. Aria is currently working on a chemistry thesis involving water purification using titanium dioxide and clay. During her junior year, she traveled abroad to India where she got to go backpacking in the Himalayas and the tea fields of Munnar during her independent travels. Aria is also a part of the Serious Club’s SCRIPTed, Lewis & Clark’s improv troop, and is very involved in the theatre department. When she is not in the lab or the theatre, Aria loves backpacking, eating chocolate, painting, and playing soccer.

With the permission of each senior speaker who competed, the speeches were recorded, and the audio files of the other speeches presented will be available on the commencement website. Ballance’s speech will be posted after commencement in May.

Thank you to Angela Gintz, Director of Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement, and their committee for their hard work on selecting this year’s senior speaker.
