The Japanese Business Association of Portland Visit Fall 2018
March 29, 2019
In the Fall of 2018, the Japanese department participated in a collaborative “School Visit” program in association with the Japanese Business Association of Portland, and the Association of teachers of Japanese in Oregon.
Three professionals from Japanese Business Association of Portland came to campus to talk about “Culture shocks they’ve experienced working in a multicultural company and how to overcome them” and “How they prepared to work in the international community.”
8 students of the 3rd & 4th year Japanese classes, as well as 9 Japanese International students participated. It was a wonderful opportunity to hear and ask about the beneficial stories the business persons shared, as well as think about what they want to do in the future, and what they can do now as a student. For many Japanese language students, it was slightly challenging since the talk was entirely in Japanese. However, they appeared to be encouraged to improve their language skills and cultural understanding.
Special thanks must go to Japanese Business Association of Portland, and the Association of teachers of Japanese in Oregon
