Lewis & Clark’s overseas programs are immersive experiences in unexpected places, often with one of our own faculty members as the trip leader. Running from a semester up to a full year long, our programs give students the time to live new experiences and perspectives rather than simply observe them. Over 60 percent of our students participate in at least one overseas or off-campus program.

We offer more than 35 programs on six continents. At least 70 percent of these offerings are in countries outside Western Europe. This spring semester alone, students are studying all over the world—in Beijing for a language-intensive course with Professor of Chinese Keith Dede, in Australia exploring the history and culture of the country’s urban coasts with Associate Professor of Psychology Erik Nilsen, and in Seville, Spain with Associate Professor of Mathematics Liz Stanhope.

Overseas at a Glance: • 60% of Lewis & Clark Students participate • 35+ programs per year on 6 continents • 82% of surveyed alumni say that their overseas experience has contributed to their career in a meaningful way

“My overseas experience was incredibly enriching, and I feel lucky to have been able to participate in the program as part of my curriculum at Lewis & Clark,” said Blake Ashby ’20. “The New Zealand program allowed me to immerse myself in a new culture along with an L&C professor and students, and also expanded my idea of what I want to do with my degree once I graduate.”
