Provost Atkinson to Retire After 40 Years of Leadership

Please join us on Wednesday, May 23, in celebrating Vice President and Provost Jane Atkinson on the occasion of her retirement following 40 years of unparalleled leadership and service at Lewis & Clark.

Since arriving at Lewis & Clark as assistant professor of anthropology, Jane Monnig Atkinson has embodied the college motto: Explorare, Discere, Sociare (to explore, to learn, to work together). She arrived in 1978. The motto was adopted in 1993. Jane is always leading the way.

Both in the classroom and beyond—her positions include department chair, program director, dean, vice president, provost, and interim president—she has inspired countless students, colleagues, alumni, and friends of Lewis & Clark with her enormous energy and enthusiasm, expansive thinking, steadfast integrity, gracious humor, and always-welcome laugh. In Jane Atkinson, the liberal arts come to life.
