June 17, 2019
We are excited to introduce this year’s Xplore leaders who are working hard to provide participants with an informative, fun, and action packed experience.

Dylan Benitez
Dylan is a Biology major and Neuroscience minor from Seattle, Washington whose academic interests extend past biology to rhetoric, music, and linguistics. Outside of the Student Alumni Association, Dylan tutors through the Symbolic and Quantitative Resource Center (SQRC) and teaches the Pioneer Success Institute session on Sexual Health & Consent. He has worked for the Pioneer Log, L&C’s student run newspaper, been a Resident Advisor, and plays for the LC Jazz Combos as an alto saxophonist.

Cristian Cortes Cortes
I am Cristian Cortes and I’ll be one of the amazing co-leaders for Xplore. I’m a native Oregonian from Gervais and am part of the senior class of 2020 as well as a first generation student of color. While at Lewis & Clark, I am studying Psychology with a Chemistry minor and am a pre-health student. I have been a part of numerous clubs and organizations here at LC; for instance I was vice-president for our latino student union (Gente Latina Unida), am a research assistant for a neuroscience lab with Dr. Watson and I was part of Xplore during my freshman year. Aside from academics and clubs, I enjoy exploring downtown Portland with friends and creating new memories. Also during my down time, I low-key watch KUWTK.

Zakiya Newman
My name is Zakiya Newman, and I am a sophomore at LC. I am originally from Houston, Texas. I enjoy dancing, watching documentaries, and learning Arabic. I am an International Affairs major and Ethnic Studies minor. I will be co-leading the Black Student Union in the fall. After graduation I want to join the Peace Corps and eventually become a Foreign Service Officer. I am so excited to meet all of you and show you around Portland and LC!
