International Destination

Lewis & Clark attracts students from around the world.

International students and Third Culture Kids find a welcoming home at Lewis & Clark. And here they offer new perspectives and cultural knowledge and provide opportunities for everyone to look beyond the borders of cities, states, and nations. About 13 percent of our student body comes to Lewis & Clark from another country.

Every year, International Students of Lewis & Clark organizes the International Fair to celebrate the many cultures and nationalities represented on campus. The origins of this gathering date back to the 1960s and, over the years, the International Fair has evolved to reflect the college’s strong commitment to international education, including Overseas Study. This year’s event included a brunch of regional delicacies, a fashion show with garments from around the world, and a variety of musical and dance performances.

“The International Fair helps break down barriers between international and noninternational students and strengthens the Lewis & Clark community as a whole,” says Mariane Diaw ’15, the chair of this year’s student-run event and a native of Senegal. “It also encourages students to learn about and enjoy cultures different from their own.”
