Professor Mache receives NSF grant for cybersecurity work

The National Science Foundation has awarded Lewis & Clark $166,526 to support the work of Professor of Computer Science Jens Mache.

The National Science Foundation has awarded Lewis & Clark $166,526 to support the work of Professor of Computer Science Jens Mache.

His three-year project, a collaboration with Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, will involve Lewis & Clark undergraduates and support faculty teaching cybersecurity all over the country.

The goal of the project is to help meet the demand for new cybersecurity professionals by exposing students to hands-on exercises. Although the principles of secure software and systems design have implications for testing, debugging, and reliability, these concepts are currently only taught on a limited basis. This project will address this need and help bolster American technical competitiveness.

This is Professor Mache’s fifth collaborative NSF grant in the past decade. See earlier coverage of his collaborative cybersecurity work with students as part of the John S. Rogers Summer Research Program.
