1) Thursday 01/30/14 Miller 105 @ 8pm
This tragicomedy is a self-ironic portrait of a young man who drops out of university and ends up wandering the streets of the city he lives: Berlin. The film deals with the desire to participate in life and the difficulty to find one’s place.
2) Wednesday 02/05/14 Olin 301 @ 8pm
Loosely based on her actual first-hand account, depicts the final ten days of Nazi Germany as seen through the eyes of Hitler’s then-secretary Gertraud (Traudl) Junge. Joining Hitler and his inner circle at their bunker in Berlin, she witnesses the collapse of Hitler’s plans for the Third Reich. As the Russian army takes the city, the dissipation, horrific beliefs, and merciless logic of Hitler’s philosophy and followers becomes ever more apparent and visceral.

This Ain’t California
This Ain’t California is a celebration of the lust for life, a contemporary documentary trip into the world of roller boarding in the German Democratic Republic. A coming-of-age tale of three teenagers and their passionate love for a sport on the crumbling tarmac of the streets in the German Democratic Republic, which was considered very ill-fitting.

Das Wunder von Bern
The movie deals with the championship-winning German soccer team of 1954. Its story is linked with two others: The family of a young boy is split due to the events in World War II, and the father returns from Russia after eleven years. His problems in getting back to normal life are shown, with references to his children and wife. The second story is about a reporter and his wife reporting from the tournament.
5) Tuesday 03/11/14 Olin 301 @ 8pm
Das Boot (1981)
Follows the daring patrol of the U-96, one of the famed German U-boats known as the “gray wolves.” The crew is graphically portrayed in a life-and-death struggle, challenging the British Navy at every turn.

An exploration of how the actions of individual lives impact one another in the past, present and future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and an act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution.
7) Wednesday 04/23/14 Miller 102 @ 8pm
Rainbow press reporter Ludo is sentenced to 8 months, but is released on probation. But he has to work 300 hours for a local daycare center and meets Anna who has unfinished business with him.

For over a year the film team around Michael Hammon followed these three athletes on their daily routines. But GOLD is more than just a movie about exceptional athletes. This documentary reminds you, that you can achieve much more than you think and that GOLD is in each and everyone of us.
