Ryan Shannon, LC Law student, recently shared his summer experience working for Trustees of Alaska in Anchorage. He credits the environmental law program, NEDC and PILP for an amazing opportunity:
“Trustees of Alaska is a nonprofit environmental law firm that works on a wide range of environmental issues representing a wide range of clients including national environmental coalitions, local individuals, and indigenous groups. During my summer with Trustees I gained invaluable exposure to federal environmental law issues, with an emphasis on the Clean Water Act.
The highlight of my summer was the chance to see my supervising attorney argue a case I had helped prepare in front of the 9th Circuit. It was an amazing chance to see a skilled environmental litigator at work in the courtroom.
Additionally, work with Trustees gave me the opportunity to spend a summer in Alaska. While working hard during the week, I played just as hard on the weekends and had an opportunity to explore much of Alaska’s natural beauty. However, even after spending a summer there I barely was able to scratch the surface of what Alaska has to offer.
The opportunity was made possible thanks to Lewis & Clark Law School, its environmental law program, NW Environmental Defense Center and the Public Interest Law Project. I highly encourage anyone interested in public interest environmental law to check out Alaska and Trustees for Alaska.”
