Get to know Elias Brockman ’13, a major in political science and philosophy.
Elias Brockman ’13

Majors: Political science and philosophy

Hometown: Salem, Oregon

What did you major in and why?

I chose my two majors because they both had excellent faculty who taught very rigorous classes.

What was your favorite class and why?

Three way split between Philosophy of Language taught by Becko Copenhaver, Constitutional Law: Due Process taught by Todd Lochner, and Pillars of Western Political Thought: Plato to Machiavelli taught by John Holzwarth. All three courses challenged me immensely and made me into a better student and person.

What professor or staff member made a special impact on you?

Becko Copenhaver, John Holzwarth, and Todd Lochner.

How has your time here changed you or your view of the world?

I’ve become more serious, more disciplined, and more reflective about what I believe and why. I have a better understanding of what I stand for and what I hope to achieve. I also feel uniquely equipped to achieve those things.

What are your goals after graduation, and how do you think you’ll use your degree?

I am planning on moving to Washington, D.C., and working there.

What advice would you give to future Pioneers?

Take hard classes and seek out hard teachers. This is the only way to actually get a good education.
