Student helps team win Portland Startup Weekend

Quinn Rohlf ’15 was part of the six-person team that took home top honors at Portland Startup Weekend.
The LivFly team was the overall winner at the event, creating a website that allows runners to input where, when, how far, and how fast they run and then matches them with a compatible partner. LivFly is also on Facebook and Twitter.
Startup Weekend is a 54-hour event that focuses on building a web or mobile application that could form the basis of a business. Anyone is welcome to pitch a start-up idea and receive feedback from other participants. Teams organically form around the top ideas and proceed with business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekend culminates with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders.
“The final judging for the competition was based on a 10-minute presentation and question and answer session, and the argumentation course that I took this semester definitely helped me answer the judges’ questions,” Rohlf said. “I also think that the diverse areas of study that my Lewis & Clark peers are pursuing has helped me get better at communicating technical and computer-science related ideas to people outside of my field.”
