Women’s cross country team earns third championship

The Lewis & Clark women’s cross country team has earned its third consecutive Northwest Conference (NWC) Championship. The men’s team surprised the field and took home second place.

The Lewis & Clark women’s cross country team has earned its third consecutive Northwest Conference (NWC) Championship. The men’s team surprised the field and took home second place.

Emily Thomas ’13 finished the race in first place, becoming the second consecutive Northwest Conference Individual Champion for the Pioneers. Melissa Newton-Mora ’14 finished the race in second place. First-Team All-NWC honors went to Thomas, Newton-Mora, Emily Fagan ’14 and Kaitlyn Throgmorton ’14. Heather Spurling ’13 earned Second-Team All-NWC honors. Head coach Keith Woodard was named NWC women’s coach of the year, and Thomas was named NWC runner of the year.

The Pioneer men recently broke into the regional rankings and finished in second place. Andrew LeDonne ’14 finished in 6th place with Jarrod Nixon ’14 (10th), Daniel Shaver ’13 (17th), Sam Smith ’13 (21st), and Marc Steiner ’14 (36th) following. LeDonne earned First-Team All-NWC honors and Nixon earned Second-Team All-NWC honors.
