Performed ONE NIGHT ONLY!
Saturday, February 11 at 10pm
Once Upon a Weekend is our once-a-semester, late-night performance of short plays – produced, written, directed, acted, and designed by students. Adapted from an exercise designed by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel, Once Upon a Weekend begins with a playwriting contest. Anyone on campus is invited to write a short play or scene prompted by a theme. Once the theme is posted, playwrights have about a week to write. All the short plays are then collected and six are chosen for production by the student board of (pause.), the campus journal for dramatic writing. In three of four short days, the scripts are sorted, directors are chosen, and the plays are cast. Casting takes place on a Friday afternoon, the scripts are rehearsed for two hours maximum the next day, Saturday, and the performance takes place at 10pm that same evening. So it’s fast, frantic, energized, and raw.
