Portland Chamber Orchestra: It’s Better with a Baritone

Come celebrate Valentine’s Day with the PCO and the world’s most romantic voice! Portland Chamber Orchestra presents “It’s Better with a Baritone” on Sunday, February 15, 2015 in the Agnes Flanagan Chapel. Acclaimed baritones Rocky Blumhagen and Ron Spivak present a special edition of their two-man Broadway revue featuring some of musical theatre’s most impassioned ballads by Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jerry Herman, Michael Valenti and many others. The program includes seductive selections from Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, A Little Night Music, The Pajama Game, and La Cage aux Folles (to name just a few).

  • Saturday, February 14, 2015, 7:30 PM - Liberty Theater, Astoria
  • Sunday, February 15, 2015, 3:00 PM - Lewis and Clark College, Agnes Flanagan Chapel

The Musicians:

Rocky Blumhagen“West Coast” 

 A cabaret performer, a Big Band singer and a symphony soloist. Rocky has won multiple nominations and two acting awards for his live performances. He received his BA in vocal performance from Lewis and Clark College, in Portland, Oregon. He then sang professionally in the US, Germany, the United Kingdom and Canada; giving over 1500 nightclub performances and recording three albums.

Ron Spivak “East Coast” 

Ron has played leading roles in the musicals Man of La Mancha, Guys & Dolls, Damn Yankees, Company, Jacques Brel… and many others, and has written/performed his symphonic programs The Noisy Intermission, Bravo to Broadway and Richard Rodgers Re-vued with major orchestras. As a musical theatre historian, Ron has composed historical “liner” notes for Broadway cast albums, and has written for numerous magazines including the Tony Awards program.
