US Congressman Earl Blumenauer on Trade Policy

Date: 5:15pm - 6:00pm PDT October 22 Location: J.R. Howard Hall 102

  • Rep Earl Blumenauer

J.R. Howard Hall 102

I like French wine, Italian pasta, Honduran coffee, Tanzanian spices, Lithuanian wool, Indian cashmere, and South African tea. I also love produce from Oregon’s local farmers and living in a neighborhood where jobs are abundant and my community can thrive. How do international trade policies balance the benefits of importing/exporting wonderful goods and services with supporting our home communities? How does trade impact both our own lives and international affairs?

US Congressman Earl Blumenauer, representative of Oregon’s 3rd District, will join the Lewis & Clark Community to discuss the past, current, and (potential) futures for US trade. Representative Blumenauer serves on the House Ways and Means Committee and chairs the Subcommittee on Trade. This is a non-partisan event that intends to inform students about trade policy making and its consequences, from the perspective of one elected official. All perspectives are welcome.

When: Thursday, October 22 from 5:15 to 6pm (local time/PDT)

Where: Join us on zoom (invite below, no RSVP required) or in JRHH 102 (sign up here for one of the 16 available seats, and to provide a record for contact tracers, if necessary)

Format: Rep. Blumenauer will offer opening remarks, then Political Economy Professor Elizabeth Bennett and SAAB Representative Lucia Tice will moderate a question and answer session.

Note that the final presidential debate is (currently) scheduled to begin immediately following this event (6-7:30pm). Please feel free to stay in the room to view and discuss the debate with me and the students from my IA350 “Social Justice in the Global Economy” class.
