Alyshia Macaysa is the Baby Booster Program Manager for ROSE CDC, in addition to organizing with Gabriela Portland. ROSE Community Development is dedicated to revitalizing outer southeast Portland neighborhoods, through the development of good homes & economic opportunities. Baby Booster, Alyshia’s department, is a collective impact initiative that aims to improve the health of babies and families with young children. In her organizer role, GABRIELA is named in honor of Gabriela Silang, the first Filipino woman to lead a revolt against the Spanish colonization of the Philippines in the mid 1700’s. GABRIELA is also an acronym, standing for General Assembly Binding Women for Reforms, Integrity, Equality, Leadership, and Action. GABRIELA Portland works to create initiatives in the US to ensure their programs and campaigns reflect the values and causes of the National Democratic Movement - fighting against imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucratic capitalism.
