An Homage to Women Poets of Iran

The Lewis & Clark Department of Music welcomes The Andisheh Center of Portland to campus to celebrate Iranian cultural heritage through a day of workshops followed by an evening performance. 

This year’s event, An Homage to Women Poets of Iran will be an inspirational poetic journey presented by Dr. Ahmad Karimi Hakkak, poet and scholar Sheida Mohamadi, and an amazing performance by world-renowned composer and instrumentalist Babak Amini and fellow musician Siamak Shirazi. Please see the line up of the day’s events below.


Workshops in the Diane Gregg Pavilion*


9:30am - 12:30pm   Introduction to women poets of Iran

1:30pm - 2:30pm   Persian classical musical modal system

2:30pm - 3:30pm  Calligraphy

4:00pm - 5:00pm  Persian dance instructions

5:00pm - 6:00pm  An introduction to daf (Iranian frame drum)

*Workshops are complimentary to Lewis & Clark students. Registration is on a first come, first served basis, and space is limited. Please email to request a seat be reserved in your name.
