Teaching Excellence Program

Managing Transitions

Date: 12:40pm - 1:40pm PST December 7, 2016 Location: JR Howard Hall Conference Room 302

JR Howard Hall Conference Room 302

Since the last TEP Pedagogy Lunch of this semester falls on the final day of classes, we will focus our conversation on managing transitions. What strategies can we use to transition from the hectic days of teaching, testing and grading to the restorative potential of winter break? And equally important, how can we create a smooth transition into the spring semester, without undermining the restorative potential of winter break?

To help you consider these transitions, I point you to Natalie Houston’s advice about Wrapping Up the Semester as well as David Gooblar’s 4 Resolutions for the New Semester and Anastasia Salter’s Teaching Resolutions for a New Semester.

Questions to consider:
-What’s included on your end-of-semester checklist?
-What strategies do you find helpful in managing the transition from fall semester to winter break?
-How do you keep track of changes you’d like to make the next time you teach a course?
-What challenges do you anticipate when it’s time to transition back into the spring semester?
-What teaching resolutions (if any) are you considering?

Although an RSVP is not required, a rough headcount is always appreciated. If you plan to attend, please register below.

Please feel free to bring your own lunch. Coffee, tea, and cookies will be provided.

Stay tuned for Spring 2017 pedagogy lunch dates!
