The Student Academic Affairs Board (SAAB) Research Grant supports students who are conducting self-motivated research (supported by a faculty advisor) that adds depth and perspective to existing courses, programs, and issues at Lewis & Clark. Such research may be for independent study courses or theses/projects.
SAAB works with the Sponsored Projects and Research Compliance (SPARC) Office to ensure that funded research meets federal guidelines and College policies. For example, the College requires that all staff, faculty, and students involved in research are trained in the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) and complete online training modules. In addition, if your research involves human subjects, live vertebrate animals, and/or biological materials, it must be approved by an institutional research compliance committee prior to research initiation. Please note that research involving human subjects includes interviews, exemption must be determined by the IRB, and IRB review can take several months. More information and instructions are available on the SAAB grant application or by reaching out to the committees directly.
