Pioneer Debate Institute
The 2020 Pioneer Speech & Debate Institute will take place July 11-25 on the Lewis & Clark campus.
The Lewis and Clark Speech and Debate team welcomes you to attend the Pioneer Speech & Debate Institute, hosted at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR this July. Our camp has a rich tradition of teaching students, both locally and nationally, the skills they will need to be able to compete at the highest level of competition. We as a program are committed to providing the best possible resources for our students and are ready to provide them access to resources and individuals of the highest pedigree.
Over the course of the two week program your students will be given lectures, practice times, and lab time to work with our staff of expert level speech and debate coaches from across the country. Our staff have been extremely influential competitors and coaches at both the college and high school level, both regionally in the Pacific Northwest but also nationally. We offer the full range of events in debate: Public Forum, Lincoln Douglas, Policy, and Parliamentary debate. We also offer coaching in the full flight of NSDA approved speech events.
Whether your student is speech focused, debate focused, or both, they will be given the chance to work with former national champions and finalists as well as coaches with years of experience. Students will learn not only to be competitively successful but also to learn vital research, argumentation, and performance skills that they can take with them into their everyday lives.
During both weeks we will have a camp tournament for both our speech and debate students. The students will be given the week to prepare and will be receiving ballots from these tournament rounds as they would at a normal season tournament. As well, there will be ample time provided for our qualified judges to deliver plenty of feedback, ensuring that all of our students get as many possible learning opportunities as they can have.
We want students to learn how to not only be successful in this activity, but to also allow them to have fun. One of the most important parts of speech and debate is the quality time you have and the friends you gain. The Pioneer Speech & Debate Institute will not simply be a speech or debate camp, it will be a place to learn new skills, foster friendships with like minded people from across the country, and become part of the speech & debate community.
