Overseas Study

There are two overseas study programs offered with an emphasis on psychology: Dublin, Ireland and Australia. 

Ireland: Dublin
  • This program is a regional area study with an emphasis in social science.
  • You will participate in a community internship for several hours each week. These internships provide you with important hands-on experience in an international setting.
  • This program is held during the Spring semester of odd years, typically spanning from early January to mid-April.
  • Prerequisites include: PSY100, 200, and 300; or PSY100 and major department’s quantitative and research methods course, and a minimum GPA of 2.75.
  • You will take the following courses:
    • IS268: Irish Life & Cultures (4 credits)
    • IS269: Irish Welfare System (4 credits)
    • IS270: Irish Literature and Theater (4 credits)
    • PSY345: Overseas Internship (4 credits)
    • Excursions include a visit to western Ireland to explore Ireland’s natural beauty and local culture, a visit to Northern Ireland to learn about the history of the country, and a theater workshop led by an Irish theater professor.
Australia
  • This program is a regional area study with an emphasis in psychology.
  • The program begins with 2 weeks of academic sessions and continues with a 5-week internship in a social service agency of interest.
  • This program is held during the Summer semester of even years, typically spanning from mid-May to early July.
  • You will live with an Australian host family.
  • Prerequisites include: PSY100, 200, and 300 and Junior or Senior Class Standing.
  • You will take the following courses:
    • IS290: Australian Area Study (4 credits)
    • PSY345: Overseas Internship (4 credits)
