Student Transitions & Experiences
Family Classes at L&C
Whether this is your first student to attend college, the first to attend college in another state (or country!), or you are a seasoned pro, sending your loved one off to college can be an adjustment for not only the student, but for the parents and family members as well. To help with this transition, Lewis & Clark College is proud to offer two online courses for family members of current students:
- Your Student and You: Turning Change into Growth During the First Six Months of College
This course is designed to acquaint parents and other interested family members to the transitions and developmental opportunities that their students will face their first semester at Lewis & Clark College. In addition, the course also serves to provide information and knowledge to parents to aid them in their own transition as their relationship with their student moves to a new state.
- Your Sophomore and You: Building on Experience for Success During the Second Year of College
This course is designed to acquaint parents of Sophomore students to the transitions and developmental opportunities that their students will face their second year at Lewis & Clark College. In addition, the course also provides information and knowledge to parents about how the needs of Sophomores are similar and dissimilar from those of their first-year peers. Sophomores face a unique set of challenges in that they need little orientation since they are fairly well acquainted with college life, but there needs to be a paradigm shift in how these students self-direct their use of resources and mentorship to ensure a deepening of their L&C roots in preparation for life after college.
