Alternative Pumpkin Picking Trip
Fall of 2012 - that means hot apple cider, colorful leaves, and pumpkin picking! So in the spirit of the season, students went on an alternative pumpkin picking trip hosted by SEED, the Garden Collective, Bon Appétit, and Campus Living. This “alternative” pumpkin picking trip took participants out to Red Truck Farm, a local farm that supplies vegetables to Lewis & Clark’s dining hall! Farmer Jason Karnezis and Bon Appétit Fellow Claire Cummings talked about how to grow food in a sustainable way, why this type of food production can be challenging, and ways in which farmers (and urban gardeners) can overcome those challenges. Finally, instead of carving the pumpkins into spooky creatures we used them to prepare a delicious lunch to share together in the new Holmes Hall!
