    The softball team went into spring break holding a zero-win record, and came back from the break with three wins after a four-game tournament. At the Sun West Tournament in Orange County, CA the team played Williams twice, and also played La Sierra and Tufts, defeating the two latter schools. Needless to say, the team was ecstatic.

    Women’s tennis continued to dominate last week with a sweep of Puget Sound at home. The women played UPS Friday, and won 9-0. It was the last home game for the women this season.
    Singles competition proved Lewis & Clark as the best team, repeatedly, with convincing scores.

    This weekend marked the beginning of conference play for softball.  Saturday the women started against Pacific with a doubleheader at home.  The Pioneers lost the first game 10-2, and the second 16-7.  Sunday the women traveled to Linfield, losing again 17-2 and 5-2.

    Another weekend series and yet another tough loss to swallow. Pioneer baseball dropped two of three to Willamette over the weekend, and fell to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in the Northwest Conference.
    After winning the first game of the three-game set, the Pios lost the final two on the road and failed to win a series for the third consecutive weekend.

    Imagine: Early in the morning, when most of campus is still asleep and not even Templeton is bustling, the crew team is meeting to train. The team spent a majority of its training time on land earlier in the season, and now is incorporating more and more water practices.

    The Lewis & Clark softball team started its season stuck in a rut from the previous season; the team and its opponents were convinced of LC’s inevitable doom every time they took the diamond.  Since those early days of insecurities, the team has grown not only in skill, but also in confidence and in passion for the game.

    This past weekend concluded the track and field season for Lewis & Clark at the NWC Championships in Spokane, Wash.  Coming off of a strong season, the women placed sixth with 81 points and the men took eigth with 23.  The women scored the most points they have in a long time. Although they kept their sixth place from last year, they were only three points off of fifth place Pacific Lutheran.

    This past weekend, the men’s and women’s golf teams competed at the Heron Lakes Golf Club in Portland for the 2010 NWC Championships.  
    For both the men and women, Whitworth was able to pull out the win and Lewis & Clark finished last.

    The track team hosted the Lewis & Clark Invite last weekend, competing one last time before the Northwest Conference (NWC) championship which will be held at Whitworth University in Spokane, Wash. this weekend.

    Since spring break, the softball team has yet to snag another win. For their last weekend of the season, it looks to be promising, since opponent George Fox is hovering over them in the NWC rankings. Comparing win-lose statistics for the teams thus far, George Fox holds a 3-20 conference ranking, and 9-26 overall while Lewis & Clark has 0-24 in conference and 3-32 overall.

    The women came out of their final weekend of tennis at the NWC championships in third place after defeating Linfield in day two, 5-4.

    Pacific jumped out to an early lead and held off a late Lewis & Clark comeback to hand the Pioneer baseball team its eighth consecutive loss, 9-5, on Tuesday in Forest Grove.

    It may have lacked the headline-grabbing appeal of the Masters, but Northwest Conference Spring Classic was still a major as far as the Lewis & Clark golf teams are concerned.

    For Lewis & Clark baseball, April certainly has been the cruelest month. Since a 15-10 win over Willamette on the last day of March, LC has dropped four straight to slip to 9-17 overall and 6-12 in the Northwest Conference. The most recent defeat came at the hands of Concordia University on Wednesday at home 13-4.

    It should come as no surprise that as the track season nears its end, competition continues to flourish while athletes prove themselves. The team loaded up and headed to Forest Grove to compete in the Pacific Luau this past Saturday for a sunny afternoon of track, completing the day with 21 finishes in the top three for the team.

    This past week Lishka Havel (’10) competed in the NWC Multi-Event Championships and left the meet with a third place in the women’s heptathlon.  It was a two day event and Havel racked up 4066 points overall.

    The LC sailing team travelled to Sail Sand Point in Seattle, Wash. on Saturday to compete against five other NW colleges for the district championship. The University of Washington sailing team hosted the fleet racing event, which serves as a qualifier for the national semi-finals.

    The softball team has seen six defeats in the past week after two consecutive days of doubleheaders versus NWC fifth place Whitworth and a Wednesday make-up game against NWC leader Linfield. The team currently stands 0-20 in conference rankings.

     Filling out your bracket is always tough, especially when you are a senior in college and making any plans or choices about your future is terrifying. I waffled for a while, and then it hit me. I would fill out my bracket basing all my choices on the likelihood that I would be admitted to the institution in question.

    There is no slowing down for the track team at the moment.  This past weekend at the Northwest Conference South meet, the Pioneer women finished first with 173.5 points. Not only did this mean victory over NWC teams George Fox, Pacific, and Linfield, but also non-conference team Concordia.  The men finished the meet with 83 points.

    Crew eased into their spring season this past weekend with a warm up regatta against Willamette.  The two teams hit the river last Saturday, doing race pieces against each other, separating into men and women divisions, and varsity and novice.

    This weekend left the softball team 0-15 overall and 0-8 in the NWC. Currently Lewis & Clark rests at the bottom of the rankings in conference, with Whitworth sitting right above it and Pacific Lutheran ranking first. Last Saturday the team played against Puget Sound at home, losing 8-6 and 6-3. Then, on Sunday, the team was defeated by NWC leader Pacific Lutheran at 10-0 and 12-5.

    Not traditionally thought of as a hoops hotbed, the Pacific Northwest, and more specifically the greater Seattle area, has recently become the launching point for many successful NBA careers. Often overlooked by basketball Meccas such as New York, Southern California, and the Baltimore/District of Columbia area, Seattle has become one of the surefire regions to provide skilled, NBA-ready ball players.

    Every Lewis & Clark student loves to stick it to Reed College. This weekend Artemis, the LC women’s ultimate Frisbee team, got to live that dream when they topped Reed in the championship game of the Grover Ultimate Madness tournament in Forest Grove.

    Sam Holman (’11) singled up the middle, Parker Dane (’12) raced homed from second and Lewis & Clark beat Pacific 9-8 in walk-off fashion at home Sunday in 11 innings.

    Single elimination means you only get one chance. The men’s basketball team lost to nationally ranked, no. five Whitworth 89-65 in the first semifinal game of the Northwest Conference playoffs last Thursday at the Whitworth Fieldhouse in Spokane, Wash.

    It was all school records, NWC qualifying marks and personal records last weekend in Newberg, Ore. Competing in the first NWC meet of the season, Lewis & Clark track managed to dominate their opponents Linfield and George Fox.
