March 12There is a quote on the wall of the PioLog office, I don’t know when it was put up there, but it says: “ASLC is the smiley-faced puppet that tells us what the administration is going to do to us, and why everything is going to be okay.” These days, that is not wholly accurate.
April 9It happens to all of us at some point – the horrible realization that the crush you’ve been obsessed with simply doesn’t “like like” you back.- April 9Do STAND’s recent posters do more to inspire, or inflame?
April 9So I was hosting a party and an old flame showed up. The next thing I know we’ve hooked up. They spent the night, but I woke up in an empty bed. I’m not exactly sure what to do now. You see… I’m kind of dating someone else at the moment. And this old flame isn’t exactly the kind I want to make a habit of hooking up with, or proclaim on a mountaintop that it happened in the first place. So tell me, oh wise Hamslam: What should I do now?
March 12Dear Hamslam,
I just seem to have a thing for gay girls. At first I though it was just bad luck, but after asking out the third gay chick in a row, it’s looking less and less like a coincidence. Obviously, this has had a negative impact on my love life. How can I untangle my crush-meter from my gaydar? Please help!

March 12Professors will not always give you a question to answer, and many of us have tragically found out that it is immensely more difficult to propose and answer your own questions than someone else’s. Most of us have also come to realize how horribly first dates can go.
March 12A critical look at humanitarian intervention, history, and war in Sudan.
April 30Reed College is an example of an institution with a drug problem. Lewis & Clark is not. Because of this, I firmly believe that the administration’s overzealous targeting of students on 4/20, with the unnecessary assistance of Portland police, is only one instance of a larger effort by our school’s authorities to manipulate our institution’s reputation and student body into just another uninspired, athletics-obsessed cash cow.- April 30After being on the Student Organizations Committee (formerly Organizations Budgeting Board and Charting and Budgeting Board) for two years, I have gained a bit of insight and opinion on the functioning of the student group budgeting process.

Why did I just spend my first year of college being taught how to do what I already learned, instead of learning how to develop those skills by applying them subjects that interest me?

April 30Dear Readers,
Some have said that I have too much love and write Hamslam to spread that love with others. They refer to my unnaturally high sperm count and testosterone overload. This, of course, is preposterous. With some deep reflection I have instead realized that I have trust issues.
April 30Do you hear that – the wistful sounds pulsing through the hallways recently? That, my friend, is the collective sighs of relief that many seniors are releasing into the panicked atmosphere of the final weeks of class. Thesis presentations, senior recitals, and art exhibits are all coming to an end. Most of us seem ready to throw up our hands and rejoice that it’s over.
April 30Over the past couple of weeks, South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker may have created the most controversial episodes in the show’s history, which were followed by heavy censorship of the program as well as death threats from an extremist Muslim group.- April 23
STAND is adept at making enemies
April 23Watch out over summer break, kids, because no matter where you are, whether it be in Portland, San Francisco, London, Bangkok, or anywhere else for that matter, you can still get written up.
April 23Congratulations, Jeff Feld-Gore and other administrators – you won. The 4/20 celebration at the flagpole, which was becoming a thing of true stoner-lore, is probably dead forever. Congrats. You did it.- April 16Controversy over SOC funding. Offense at PioLog’s choice to endorse a candidate. And the creator of the infamous race-issue posters speaks!

All right, I admit it — I’ve said and done some incredibly stupid things while drunk. So what do heavy drinking and academics have in common? Probably a lot more than what I’m going to discuss in this article. But for my purposes I want to focus on the sense of being out of control.
March 19Dear Hamslam,
Why do all LC women stare at me longingly as I walk across campus? Is it cause I am super hot? And why are they always looking at my lower body, why don’t they ever look at my face?
March 19Pushing back deadlines is just like trying to avoid a series of unwanted suitors who just won’t stop asking you out – they’re not going away and you’re just going to stress yourself out by thinking about them.
March 19Now nearing the end of my Lewis & Clark career, I feel qualified to make the following judgment: My liberal arts education wasn’t quite worth the $180,000 dollars that it cost.- March 18Recently, a sophomore student entered the conduct process after being written up for just the fourth time in his entire Lewis & Clark career. Upon having his conduct meeting with an administrator, the student was given his sanction: He would be required to live on campus for an additional semester beyond the normal four-semester residency requirement

March 5I feel as though there is a more pressing issue that I must address related to the brain. Basically, we have got to stop over-thinking. Both the classroom and bedroom environment suffer from paralyzing self-doubt and this must be remedied.- March 5Student senate attitude altercations
March 5Thanks to generous funding from the ASLC Finance Committee, six journalists from the Pioneer Log attended a national college journalism convention in Phoenix last weekend and gained an abundance of media knowledge. As we mingled with our colleagues, not only did we learn how to improve the PioLog, but we also found that Lewis & Clark is not half bad.
- March 5Students Engaged in Eco-Defense members have said that “Lewis & Clark hasn’t done anything to make the grade” for sustainability. Hardly.
- March 5This week Lil Wayne will be sentenced to one year in Rikers Island prison for a 2007 incident involving a .40 cal semiautomatic gun. His sentencing was originally scheduled for Feb. 9, but was postponed, first because of a surgery involving 8 root canals, and later when the courthouse caught fire.
