August 25th, 2011

• Academic Fair

  9:30am All academic departments, programs, and related support services are represented to give you an opportunity to sample areas of study, find campus resources, ask questions of faculty, and receive information.

• Rules of the Road

  2:15pm Hear from students about College rules and policies:  from roommate conflict to policy violation repercussions–and pick up your guide to policy for students, written by students.

• Opening Convocation

  4:30pm Join faculty and staff for your formal induction into the proud tradition of Lewis & Clark.  Speakers include President Barry Glassner and Dean of the College Tuajuanda Jordan.
  
  Students assemble at 4:15 p.m. in Pamplin Sports Center.
  Parents should be seated at Griswold Stadium.

• Picnic with Parents, Faculty and Staff

  5:45pm Join fellow students, faculty, parents and staff for a picnic and the jazz tunes of Portland’s Dan Balmer and Go by Train.  Dinner will be provided by Bon Appetit for students, parents, faculty, alumni, and staff.

August 26th, 2011

• Diversity in the Lewis & Clark Community

  9:00am At this required event, join your classmates to explore the Lewis & Clark community and how you are a unique addition to the institution.  Discuss how to work with difference, view difference as a contribution, and how we are conditioned to see the world around us.

• CIRP Survey

  4:00pm This survey, administered annually by UCLA, provides information about the experiences and expectations of our new undergraduate students.  While voluntary, each year nearly 100% of new students complete the survey. 

August 27th, 2011

• NSO Service Day - 2011

  12:15pm Spend an afternoon with your orientation group getting to know some great organizations in Portland.  Help these organizations with their mission to create a stronger and healthier Portland community.  Information on your service assignment is included in orientation group information with arrival packets.

August 28th, 2011

• NSO Capstone

  1:00pm Wrap up NSO with your student director, meet Interim Deans of Students Tricia Brand and Jeff Feld-Gore, and kike off Beyond NSO.

• Portland Scavenger Hunt

  2:30pm Get to know the City of Roses by riding the bus downtown and navigating the streets of Portland, stopping at some popular locations.  Meet at Stamm West for instructions and maps.  Prizes!

• Welcome Back Picnic

  5:00pm - 7:00pm New students are encouraged to join returning studentts for picnic dinner on the Stewart Lawn.  Music by Boka-Marimba.  Bring plate/food from Fields Dining Room and join in on the fun.

  8:30pm A funny and frank look at campus dating by an improvisational comedy duo incorporating student suggestions and common misconceptions about college dating to create both hilarious and educational results.
