Other Frequently Asked Questions!

What is the best way to prepare for the Career Fair?
Research the organizations using the links above, prepare your resume, practice your elevator pitch, and come to the preparation workshops advertised on our website ahead of the fair. Additional tips for preparing for a Career Fair can be found here .

Those are some great companies, but do they really have entry-level jobs and/or summer internships?
Each of these organizations expects a minimum of two entry level and/or summer positions.

I’m not interested in any of these employers. Why should I go?
It is always good to get practice talking to employers to learn about their industries, hiring, missions, etc. And this couldn’t be more convenient!

I’m a Senior, but I’m really busy this semester—why should I go?
Especially if you are busy, this is an efficient and convenient way to meet employers, learn about opportunities, and prepare for life after Lewis & Clark.

I’m only a First Year/Sophomore/Junior—why should I go?
There are summer positions and not all are in Portland. This is a great opportunity to learn about future opportunities as well.

Are these only Portland organizations?
No. Click on the links of these employers. Many have national and international offices. That said, while most of our students are not from Oregon, most stay in Oregon after graduation.

I want to work internationally—why should I go?
Several of the organizations involved have international offices and there will be some international programs represented at the far as well.

Why should I register to attend?
Help us help you! Letting us know that you plan on attending allows us and our employer and community partners have enough information and materials for you. It makes check-in easier and allows you to present yourself more professionally. Plus - all students who pre-register and attend will receive a pass to the adidas Employee Store and the Columbia Sportswear Employee Store!

Why should I submit my resume?
Employers will receive the resumes of all students who pre-register and submit their resumes through the pre-registration portal.

Should I bring my resume?
There is no requirement to, but it is probably a good idea to carry several copies with you. Some employers may accept resumes while others may encourage you to share them online.

What if I already submitted my resume as part of the resume challenge?
If you have already submitted to the Resume Challenge, please re-submit your resume here or via the button at the top of the page. It ensures that recruiters have your most up to date resume!

I need to create/brush up my resume—what should I do?
Schedule an appointment or come to drop in hours listed here.

Do I dress up? What should I wear?
First impressions matter - represent yourself well! Jackets/sweaters and/or collared shirts for men and smart pants/skirt and tailored tops for women always work well. Do not go out and buy new clothes—just wear the nicest of the clothes you have. If you care about adidas and Columbia, do not wear rival brands.

Do I have to stay the entire time?
No, and you do not need to arrive right at 3 p.m. Whenever you arrive, try to stay for at least an hour, but any amount of time is good.

Why should I talk to an employer in which I’m not interested?
Practice makes perfect! While you hone your conversational skills, you may learn something unexpected.

I want to go to graduate school, why should I go?
Lewis & Clark Law School and Lewis & Clark School of Education & Counseling will be in attendance. You can learn about their programs directly and about applying to graduate school in general. Additionally, you can learn about places where you might want to work before or after you attend graduate school.

Should I be on LinkedIn?
Ideally, you should be on LinkedIn. It is simple and fast to create an account. Have at least your photo and educational information on there.

What should I do after the Career Fair?
If you connect with an employer during the Career Fair, ask them the best way to follow up and follow through with what they suggest.
