Debates over science and religion routinely capture headlines in the US. Often such news stories center on biological evolution and its reception in the Evangelical Christian community. What about the followers of another monotheistic religion, Islam? This question is important as the Muslim world is currently going through unprecedented changes, and a new globally connected generation is assessing the place of Islam in the modern world. This talk will focus on how Muslims in different societies view biological evolution and what can that tell us about the social and cultural factors shaping these responses.

This talk is given by Salman Hameed, Director of the Center for the Study of Science in Muslim Societies (SSiMS) and Assistant Professor of Integrated Science and Humanities at Hampshire College
