Philippe Brand to Participate in NEH Summer Seminar
Philippe Brand, Visiting Assistant Professor of French, has been invited to participate in a five-week NEH Seminar, “France’s Haunting Past: Debating Twentieth-Century History and French National Identity since 1990.” The Paris-based seminar will include weekly meetings at the Institut d’Histoire du Temps Présent (IHTP) as well as excursions to the national museum of World War I and monuments commemorating the French experience during World War II. Dr. Brand specializes in twentieth and twenty-first century French and Francophone literature and culture, and this seminar’s topic is relevant to both his research and teaching. Nine NEH Summer Seminars for College and University Teachers will be hosted at various institutions around the world this summer (2012), and the competition to participate is fierce. Each Seminar includes sixteen participants working in collaboration with leading scholars, and participating faculty receive a stipend to cover their expenses.
