George Kline

George Kline lives in San Francisco with his wife, Jennifer, and son, George Wingfield Kline, Jr., and grew up outside of Palo Alto, California. George is a senior portfolio manager at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney.  Prior to joining a Morgan Stanley Smith Barney predecessor firm in 2001, George was an associate with Barclays Global Investors in San Francisco, a firm that hired him after he became connected to them through Lewis & Clark’s abroad program in New York. On going from a history major to a portfolio manager, Kline said, “The NYC program at L&C exposed me to Wall Street and financial careers.  I accepted a position with Barclays Global Investors upon graduation.” George is a chartered market technician (CMT), and he is a member of the Market Technician’s Association, the International Federation of Technical Analysts, and the Wine & Food Society of San Francisco.

George graduated from Lewis & Clark with a B.A. in history in 1999 and was particularly passionate about the history of the American West. He played Ultimate Frisbee, developed a palette for wine and the culinary arts, and remembers graduating with the fundamentals of a liberal arts education as well as a passion for travel. He participated in the Italy and New York City programs and was editor of the history department’s newsletter, Footnotes.  “The Lewis & Clark education was a defining experience in my life.  I volunteer so current and future students may enjoy an equally positive experience as I did and so that Lewis & Clark as an institution reaches its full potential.  Lewis & Clark continues to play an important role in my life, and it is critical for alumni to give back.” George’s uncle, Walter Hollands, also graduated from Lewis & Clark, M.A.T ’91. George fills his free time by spending time with his family, skiing, reading, and cooking.
