Admissions Alumni Volunteer Corps
Lewis & Clark’s admissions alumni volunteer program seeks to connect trained alumni throughout the country to assist the Admissions Office in attracting bright, diverse, and motivated students to the College. The goal of the program is to increase the amount of personal contact that prospective students have with L&C.
The Admissions Office takes one of the College’s most valuable resources — our alumni — and orients them to admissions process and puts them in touch with prospective students. Though web pages, published college guides, and brochures may be wonderful tools in the college search process, the single most important source of information for a student deciding about college is the direct, personal contact that he or she has with people from that institution. The relationship formed through formal and informal contacts with parents, friends, alumni, and students can truly make a difference in a student choosing to attend L&C.
Admissions alumni volunteers assist the College by:
- Attending local college fairs
- Conducting alumni interviews
- Assisting with remote interviews (greeting families and students)
- Contacting admitted students to say congratulations
- Attending or hosting receptions
- Attending or hosting summer send-offs
- Listing information in the “Contact an Alum” directory for prospective students
- Recommending L&C to high school students
- Encouraging other alumni to help with the admissions process
Since its inception in 1985, the Admissions Alumni Volunteer Program has been a vital component in the admissions process and a valuable asset to the College as a whole.
AAVs are regional alumni volunteers. They serve as a local contact person for prospective students help with the College’s admissions efforts in their hometowns. AAVs are provided training at a biannual Alumni Volunteer Training Conference and receive regular communication and updates from the Admissions Office. How much of a time commitment does it take to be an AAV? What an AAV does really depends on how much time you have available, the specific needs of an area, and how many other alums are available to help. During some months AAV activities may take 2-5 hours and during other months the time commitment will be very limited.
