Shelby Ziccardi BA ’18 was a recipient of the 2018 NCWIT Collegiate Award, which honors exceptional accomplishments in computing by undergraduate and graduate women. Ziccardi’s project, “Individual Calibration of Redirected Walking Thresholds in Virtual Reality,” focuses on the VR problem of presenting users with large virtual spaces when the actual spaces they occupy are very limited. Her project addresses this problem by tricking the brain, increasing immersion and depth of experience. The result is quick and accurate calibration of the VR experience, tailored to the individual.
