Charles Doggett

Instructor of Jazz Drum Set

Charlie Doggett, a native Oregonian, began violin lessons at age 8 and later switched to drum set. Mostly self-taught in his early years, he started playing professionally as a teenager and later received formal instruction, through scholarship, at the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance.

Charlie relocated to Portland in 2000 and has since performed throughout the Pacific Northwest, West Coast, and Europe. He is a longstanding member of Upper Left Trio, David Friesen Trio, David Friesen Quintet, Superjazzers, and the Jessie Marquez Group, to name a few.

Additionally, Charlie has had the privilege of performing or recording with artists including Charles McPherson, Randy Porter, Ralph Bowen, Rich Perry, Dave Frishberg, John Gross, John Stowell, Poncho Sanchez, Darrell Grant, Tim Willcox, David Goldblatt, Obo Addy, Titos Sompa, Eugene Symphony, Steve Christofferson, Nancy King, Glen Moore, Gary Versace, Dan Balmer, Javon Jackson, Esperanza Spalding, Larry Koonse, Mordy Ferber, David Evans, Nate Wooley, Jay Thomas, and many others.

Charlie has taught at Lane Community College, The University of Oregon School of Music and Dance, Clackamas Community College, and Lewis & Clark.
