This past weekend, the men’s and women’s golf teams competed at the Heron Lakes Golf Club in Portland for the 2010 NWC Championships.
For both the men and women, Whitworth was able to pull out the win and Lewis & Clark finished last.

On the women’s side, the Pirates won with a posted score of 654 for the team, while on the men’s side the Pirates ended with 618.  For LC the women posted an 896 and the men posted a 719.

One of the highlights of the tournament, and of Megan Coggeshall’s (’12) career, was the hole in one that Coggeshall made on the first day out.

“This amazing feat occurred on hole no. 3 of the Greenback course (par 3, 142 yards).  She is awesome!” said teammate Alison Fankhauser (’12).
As far as records go, Coggeshall is the first LC student to sink a hole in one at a competition.

“I just had a rough time on hole no. 2, so I was kind of frustrated when I went to hit. When I hit the ball it went exactly where I was aiming and the right distance,” said Coggeshall. “I just watched it roll into the hole and I was completely shocked.”

This year’s women’s golf team saw a jump in numbers to total four players for the season.  All four of them are sophomores, and three of them definitely plan on being abroad next spring during the 2011 season.  The championships were LC’s last competition of the season, and the team was happy to post a team score.

On the second day, Rebecca Langer (’12) shot an 80, coming in with the fourth lowest individual score of the day.  Her score for the weekend overall was a 174, which put her in a tie for 21st place.

“Alison is a consistently good player and Fiona is improving greatly,” said Coggeshall.  “Rebecca shot an 80, which ranks up there with girls from other schools.  The team is definitely looking up, and Coach Michael has definitely been a big part of it.”
