STAND is adept at making enemies
There are so few people at LC who are willing to really get involved. It is a disgrace that the actions taken by STAND this semester have divided those students who have taken the initiative to do so. It is clear from STAND’s actions that its members care deeply about LC and what happens here. What is unclear is how that caring has turned into something that has successfully made me, and many other community members, against a human rights group.
Their tactics this year have made me wary of believing any information they give out, made me not want to attend their events or even read their newsletter. I know that their hearts are in the right place and that their cause is just, but I want to ask them to be mindful of how they attempt to obtain their goals. Alienating ASLC, the administration and many other students will not help them.
The only way to achieve their goals is through cooperation, not through misleading posters and unfounded accusations. Because, whether you like it or not, it is your student government and it is your administration. They are not going away, so while you do not have to agree with them, working against them will not get you anywhere. Quite frankly, STAND is too busy pissing people off to get anything done.
