It should come as no surprise that as the track season nears its end, competition continues to flourish while athletes prove themselves. The team loaded up and headed to Forest Grove to compete in the Pacific Luau this past Saturday for a sunny afternoon of track, completing the day with 21 finishes in the top three for the team.
The women’s team won places left and right for both running and field events. Cheyenne Feliz (’11) finished her 400-meter race in first place, while Corinne Innes (’10) dominated the 3000-meter steeplechase. In the 200-meter, Feliz also took second. Illana Livstrom (’13) continues to dominate in her first track season by beating her personal records over and over again. This past weekend she improved to 18:17.41 in the 5000-meter. This moved her up to the fourth place on the Lewis & Clark All-Time list. Amy Madden (’11) is also fourth on the All-Time list for hammer throw. Madden managed a third place finish with a distance of 131’11.5”. Also moving up on the All-Time list to fifth place was Maddie Harper (’13), who finished the pole vault in third with a height of 10’. Another first-year pole vaulter, Kelly Yelverton (’13) was only six inches behind Harper, finishing in sixth place. In the high jump, Alla Khalitova (’10) jumped her record for the season with 5’1,” finishing second, only two inches under Linfield’s first place height. Jennifer Mullins (’12), another high jump competitor, ended sixth with 4’5”. Lishka Havel (’10) finished third in the long jump, while Mullins finished third in the triple jump. Havel also finished third in the 100-meter dash.
For the men, sprinter Joevonte Mayes (’12) dominated the 200-meter dash and took home second in the 100-meter; his times were 22.73 and 11.61 respectively. Karl Dickman (’10) also took the gold in the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:55.82. Dickman’s time moved him to eighth place for the All-Time list, and once again beat his personal best, which he had just beaten the week before.
Teammates John Roberts (’12) and Samuel Smith (’13) finished with 16:13.42 and 16:39.96 respectively. In the relays, a team comprised of Mayes, Lamar Curry (’13), Kevin Carpenter (’12) and Logan Kotzian (’13) finished the 4x100-meter in first place. Unfortunately, after the relay, Carpenter and Kotzian withdrew from the rest of the meet due to leg problems. During field play, Raul Millan (’13) finished the hammer throw with his best distance of the season, and a qualifying distance, of 138’8.” In the long jump, Siosifa Tonga (’13) and Reinier Spillenaar Bilgen (’13) finshed third and fourth respectively, with Tonga jumping a 17’6” and Spillenaar Bilgren a 15’4”.
The team is looking at one last home meet coming up this weekend before the NWC Championships. The meet on April 17 at 11 a.m. is also an alumni event, where track and field alumni can compete in any event.
