There is no slowing down for the track team at the moment. This past weekend at the Northwest Conference South meet, the Pioneer women finished first with 173.5 points. Not only did this mean victory over NWC teams George Fox, Pacific, and Linfield, but also non-conference team Concordia. The men finished the meet with 83 points.

Illana Livstrom (’13) continues to shine in her events, taking another first place in the 800-meter. LC took second and third place in the race as well, with teammates Olivia Foster (’13) and Kirsten Fix (’10) finishing right behind Livstrom respectively.

In the 1500-meter, runners Emily Thomas (’13) and Ellen Mering (’13) took second and third, with times of 5:04 and 5:06. Heather Spurling (’13) took second in the 5000-meter, finishing with a time of 18:54, which also qualified her for conference and moved her up to the ninth place on the LC All-Time list. Beating her school record for the second meet in a row, Corrine Innes (’12) finished first in the 3000-meter steeplechase, going from 11:51 at UPS to 11:48.

In women’s field events, Alla Khalitova (’11) managed a third place in high jump with a 4’11” clearing. Maddie Harper (’13) and Kelly Yelverton (’13) took second and third in the pole vault. In the triple jump, Laura Santos-Bishop (’12) jumped 33’4,” landing her in second place, while Liz Johnson (’11) also took second place in the javelin throw with a distance of 108’8”. Amy Madden took second in the shot put with a distance of 35’4,” which put her in first place out of the NWC teams.

For the men, Joevonte Mayes (’12) finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.53. He also finished third in the 200-meter with a time of 23 flat. In the 1500-meter, Karl Dickman (’10) ran a 4:14, putting him in second place, but first out of the NWC runners. Richie LeDonne (’11) and Lars Steier (’10) took second and third in the 5000-meter, running a 15:32 and 15:45 respectively, both ending with qualifying times.

During field events on the men’s side, Curtis Smith (’10) and Michael Pryor (’11) took second and third in the hammer throw, right behind Linfield’s Russell Sells. John Berokoff (’12) threw a 159’7” in the javelin, finishing fourth.

Overall, the team holds steady times for seeding and continues to break personal records and move up on the LC All-Time list.  A majority of the team members have already met NWC qualifying times and distances, and those who haven’t are not too far off at the moment. Every meet, more and more athletes are moving up and showing incredibly strong competition.
