Two teams receive bids to prestigious tournament

The senior teams of Hannnah Tierney and Ben Tyson (Lewis & Clark TT) and Neil Hilton and Ramya Ramesh (L&C HR) recieved bids to the invitation-only National Parliamentary Tournament of Excellence. The bids are based upon a team’s performance over the course of the year, with the five best tournaments counting towards the bid. Both teams are ranked in the top 50 and 64 teams will participate in this tournament.

In other news, the L&C squad traveled to Whitman College for a swing tournament on February 19-21. First year Jordan Buysse and sophomore Carmelle Kniss won junior division at the first tournament, while also being ranked as the third and top speaker, respectively.

The team of Tierney and Tyson advanced to the round of 16 at the first tournament, before advancing to the quarterfinals of the second tournament. Senior Neil Hilton was 2nd in extemporaneous speaking, sophomore Jacqueline Hyatt was 3rd, with sophomore Caroline Zeiher taking 3rd in junior extemporaneous. Senior Courtney Burum took 3rd in impromptu speaking as well.
