Dance team wraps up its second season

The Lewis & Clark dance team, two years in the making, is finally finding its footing. The team hopes to impress at its last halftime performance of the year on Saturday. Captain and choreographer Serena Anchetta (’12) has been with the team since its conception two years ago and takes care of everything, from solving last-minute ribbon crises to scheduling practices and getting funding.
The dance team will close its season at halftime during the LC men’s basketball game beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday evening. The performance will feature male athletes in a co-ed “salsa/swing dance” mash-up of two hit songs by Pitbull and Cobra Starship.
“People are going to be really surprised at how it turned out,” Anchetta said.
“Serena does a good job with rallying support for the dance team in the community,” said veteran member Lil Ryan (’10). “Serena is the reason why we still have a dance team.”
Anchetta took the reigns of the blossoming dance team last year after it was established by Kelsey Domann (’10). Anchetta has risen to the occasion splendidly, leading in both performances. She has also led in promoting the team, which has doubled in size under her leadership.
Funded as a club through ASLC, the dance team has survived without a choreographer or dance advisor. Gaining support from Assistant Football Coach Phil Magbanua as its faculty advisor and from Dean of Students Celestino Limas, who acts as assistant director of athletics- facilities and students, the dance team has been able to rise in the ranks. Anchetta said to watch for a final performance from the team in a showcase in April. She added that she hopes for the spring showcase to grow into a competition in the future.
Be sure not to miss the team’s performance at the basketball game in the Pamplin Sports Complex on Saturday.
