NEW TO LEWIS & CLARK?

If you’re new to Lewis & Clark College, we look forward to welcoming you to the institution and especially to the residential community. You should already have received the housing information including a Residence Hall Contract and Roommate Questionnaire.  Please submit it to the Office of Campus Living as soon as possible.  Your room assignment, the name of your roommate as well as other important information that will assist you as you transition to Lewis & Clark will be sent to you over email as soon as it is available but not before December 5, 2014.

If you want to send your belongings to the College prior to your arrival, you may send them to yourself using your campus address. (New students should receive your campus address with your Orientation materials.) Mark on the boxes, “HOLD FOR ARRIVAL, 1/18/15”.  Please note that you won’t be able to pick up the shipped boxes until Tuesday, January 20, because the campus Mail Room is closed on the weekends as well as Monday, January 19, in recognition of Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Be sure to bring some bedding and your personal effects for the weekend.

If you are arriving in Portland by air, there will be a RAZ shuttle displaying “Lewis & Clark College, PIONEER EXPRESS” in the destination window. You need not show any identification to board the shuttle and it is free. To access the RAZ for your return to Lewis & Clark, please go to Area 2 South outside of the baggage return area. For assistance you can go to the information booth when you come out of the baggage claim area and they will direct you to the second island out from the terminal across from Alaska Airlines. To visualize you can see an airport terminal map at:      http://www.portofportland.com/PDX_Terminal_Map.aspx. Please note on the right side of the map there are keys for your cursor that will show were the information booths are located.

Saturday, January 17 - 1pm, 2:30pm, 4pm and 5:30pm

Sunday, January 18 - 10am, 11:30am, 1pm, 2:30pm, 4pm, 5:30pm, 7pm, and 8:30pm

If the times listed above do not meet your flight schedule, you may consult the Transportation & Parking website for other shuttle options. http://www.lclark.edu/offices/transportation_and_parking/transportation_options/airport/  Because this is your first semester with us or your first semester back after being away from the College, we are allowing you one extra day to get settled into the residence halls. You may arrive anytime after 9am on Saturday, January 17, 2015. Please note that your first meal will not be served until Sunday morning, January 18 from 11am – 1pm, so you’ll be on your own for food on Saturday.  That will mean bringing food with you or transporting yourself to a nearby grocery store or restaurant.

You may go directly to your residence hall on January 17th but will need to telephone the Resident Advisor (RA) on duty to get checked-in to your room. Since the staff is in training on that day, it will be helpful to call them 30 minutes prior to your arrival on campus. The telephone number is 503-768-8999. Listen to the menu of choices for contacting the RA for your assigned residence hall. A map of campus is available online http://www.lclark.edu/visit/directions/maps/campus_overview/  to assist you in getting to your hall. Your RA will issue you a room key. Then you will inspect the condition of your room with the RA. Please check the room carefully; you will be held responsible for its condition when you move out of the hall at the end of the year.

As you may already know, access to residence hall exterior doors is limited to students with valid Lewis & Clark ID. As a new student you must get a permanent student identification card at the Office of Campus Safety between 8:00am - 7:00pm when you arrive on campus. Please do so at your earliest convenience. Your ID card is also used for entrance to meals, as ID for cashing checks and for access to library materials.

RETURNING TO LEWIS & CLARK?

If you are a continuing student and have been away from campus on an overseas or domestic program, or on a leave of absence, we look forward to welcoming you back to the residence halls. The information that follows should be helpful to you but if, after reading it, you still have unanswered questions, feel free to give us a call. Remember that the College will be closed beginning Wednesday, December 24 through Friday, January 2. You can reach us by email at living@lclark.edu or by phone at 503-768-7123.

Because this is your first semester back after being away from the College, we are allowing you one extra day to get settled into the residence halls. You may arrive anytime after 9am on Saturday, January 17, 2015. PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE BEFORE JANUARY 17 AS YOU WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO MOVE IN PRIOR TO THAT DATE UNLESS YOU HAVE RECEIVED EXPLICIT PERMISSION BY THE OFFICE OF CAMPUS LIVING. Please note that your first meal in Fields Dining Room will not be served until Sunday morning from 11am – 1pm, so you’ll be on your own for food on Saturday.

You may go directly to your residence hall on January 17th but will need to telephone the RA on duty to get checked-in to your room. Please check the room carefully; you will be held responsible for its condition when you move out of the hall at the end of the year.

Continuing students who have personal belongings stored in residence hall trunk rooms will need to work with the RA on Duty to find a mutually convenient time to arrange for access to those storage areas. Again, RAs are in training on Saturday, so may not be immediately available to assist you with access to storage rooms. We appreciate your patience.

As you are already aware, access to residence hall exterior doors is limited to students with valid Lewis & Clark ID. Be sure to bring yours with you. If you need a new one, you may purchase a replacement card at the Office of Campus Safety between 8am - 7pm when you arrive on campus. Please do so at your earliest convenience.

Again, if you have questions we’d be happy to answer them. The office will be closed beginning Wednesday, December 24 through Friday, January 2 but we’ll be back and in full swing on Monday, January 5. We look forward to seeing you.
