Putting Russian to Work: Recent Russian Program Alum Publishes an Article about the Punk Protest Group Pussy Riot

Anna McClain, LC ’15,  a Self-Designed Russian Major with a strong interest in Gender Studies, has just published an article about the punk protest group Pussy Riot, who  have recently released a new music video and are on a US tour. As part of that tour, they performed and spoke at the Crystal Ballroom on February 9th, when Anna also met with the Masha Alyokhina, one of the members.  Anna’s senior thesis, “Constructing Contemporary Russian Femininity Through Popular Music,” gave her the right background to present a thoughtful and informed overview of the group and to contextualize their past and current activities.
